Trend Watching

This page includes a trend watching report, Pantone personality quiz, and the style assessment. Each of these focuses on how a buyer needs to be able to identify trends as well as know their own personal style to help them do so.

Trend Watching Report

Trend Watch Reflection

While doing this trend watching assignment i noticed that the location of where you are watching for trends plays a large role in the trends you are going to see. Observing the trends around a college campus showed me that many students value comfort when going to class. If I were to do a trend watching report outside of a nice restaurant in Los Angeles, the trends I noticed would be very different. Also the age group of the individuals being observed plays into the results as well. In order to forecast trends correctly, make sure to keep the target market of your company in mind in order to make correct trend reports. So if a store such as American Eagle is looking out for new trends, they would benefit well by observing the trends of adolescents that attend local high schools rather than a what is popular for middle aged mom's. Trends are quickly moving and coming about, so it is important to take note of the trends you do observe and to work fast to get a product out that would follow suit with that trend.

Pantone Personality Quiz

The color I got for the Pantone quiz was Tangerine Tango (17-1463).

I do agree with my Pantone quiz results; my personality is bright and bold just like this color so I think it fits me very well. I learned from this activity that colors can be a trend too. Whether it is being used in fashion, cosmetics, home decor, etc.. the Pantone color of the year becomes a large trend in every aspect of life. These colors are chosen by trend watch analysis and forecasting techniques in order to understand which color has been the most popular that year.

Style Assessment

Score: 9

My score means I am a classic or traditional shopper. This type of shopper is the average person who doesn’t strictly buy for name brands or for bargains; we buy what we please whether it is on sale, a brand we like, or even if it’s one we don’t know.

I agree with my assessment because I would say I am a traditional shopper. My score was a 9 so I was still on the fashion forward side, but overall, I shop based on my style and the stores available to me rather than exclusively shopping for certain brands. I like name brand clothes for sure, but it is not a make or break for me when shopping. For example, I will go to TJ maxx and buy clothes based on what I see that I like in the store; the brand of the clothing does not matter to me as long as it fits my personal style. I do check price tags, but the price of the item is not make or break for me either if i have the money for it and it is worth it to me at the time.
